What is Stainless Steel Coil?
Stainless steel contains chromium which provides the properties of corrosion resistance at high temperatures. About Hot Rolled Stainless Steel Coil
In hot rolling processing, stainless steel is rolled and pressed above the re-crystallization temperature. The temperature is around 1100°C. Heating above re-crystallization temperatures refines the grains of microstructure and enhances the mechanical properties. At this point, stainless steel can be formed and shaped easily. The processing starts with a large rectangular piece of metal called a billet. It is heated and rolled. Then the rolled metal is exposed to high temperature and continuously runs through rollers at high speeds. Hot rolling enhances stainless steel features such as toughness, ductility, formability, and weldability. Stainless steel shrinks a little as it cools. The accuracy of intolerances and shapes are compromised in hot rolled stainless steel products. Scaling can be deal with sandblasting and pickling.
Steel shrinks slightly as it cools. Since hot rolled steel is cooled after processing, there is less control over its final shape, making it less suitable for precision applications. Hot rolled steel is often used in applications where minutely specific dimensions aren’t crucial. Railroad tracks and construction projects often use hot rolled steel.
Hot rolled stainless steel is less time-consuming and cheaper than cold-rolled stainless steel.
There are two types the stainless steel coils:
- Cold Rolled Stainless Steel Coil– This is a more finished product which has an aesthetic appeal. They come with a more finished surface and are more durable compared to the hot rolled coils. They also offer better performances, but might be harder to manipulate due to the high content of carbon in its chemical composition.
- Hot Rolled Stainless Steel Coil– Herein, the steel is rolled at a very high temperature, making it really easy for the steel to manipulate. It gives a product which comes with a high workability. As this manufacturing involves less processing, hence this is a more affordable process compared to cold rolling.
